Storm

There is a storm raging above my head at the moment. A tornado watch even. So, to fit the theme, the following is a poem I wrote for school - we were practicing the use of epithets similar to those in Egyptian praise poems. Anyway, that's what the first two stanzas were doing, earning me points. The last ones are the reason I like it.

Storm

You are a mighty force descending from above

Master of the skies

You quench the thirst of the land

Your rain penetrating the parched soil

You come when all are hungry

And give crops the strength to grow

Bringer of food

Provider of life

Thunder roaring, your clouds hang ominous from above

You give a somber feel to the day

Reminding the world that you can overpower the sun

Lightening strikes from your blackened clouds

Illuminating the gray sky

Though you bring darkness, you still provide light

You drive fear into the hearts of man

But all are not afraid

Your power, never ceasing, makes some feel safe

You are always there, something they can depend on
